Thanks for your gracious welcome!

Well,  let me say, we all miss the Stock's!   Sometimes you don't know how much Dusty and I miss them, but we are really really pleased to be here and keeping the door of the HH open this summer.   We feel like you have really welcomed us into this ministry, and it would have been very much harder without your love and support.   We are planning a field trip on Saturday the 18th to Idar-Oberstein, and are in the process on getting baby sitters lined up for Friday nights.  I have particularly been encouraged by the maturity and fellowship of the men's group, and, the wonderful praise music and worship brought by Thom and all who play and sing.   What a blessing.   The floods haven't been as much fun, but nothing brings people together like mutual misery and we have made a good start with our neighbors on Vogelweher Strasse, who have been helpful as well as sympathetic, since we weren't the only house with a basement full of water.   Bob

Getting ready to leave ...

Our time is getting short, in Germany, and it is evidenced by the frequency of our goodbyes, lately!  Today we had the "going away" of the beloved Ridderhoff family... they will be sorely missed in the KMC!  From worship at RCS to Awana, to their involvement in many other aspects of the community, they have touched many lives... and our lives are ALL the better for them having been here.  It is also painful to say goodbye to those who are deploying, because we know when they get back, we will have moved on... sigh ... but as we have said many times, God's timing is perfect, and we know He has a plan for all of us that far outshines what it would be here, if we were to stay.

This weekend was a busy one ... Connor took his SAT test, We had our potluck dinner Friday night, the Worship workshop and concert were Friday night and Saturday (Both kids were involved in the concert Saturday night), Sunday was church, dinner, Financial Peace in the afternoon....and in between, packing, taking a friend to the ER Sat night, planning for Lauterbrunnen, promoting the Fireproof event, and the chapel Disney event ... .whew ... never a dull moment.... we wouldn't have it any other way!  God is in the details, and for that we are thankful ... there are LOTS of details to work out, lately!!

Hope you enjoy the pictures, and see yourself in them, somewhere!

Recent events ...

Greetings from (a little bit) snowy... and cold... Germany!

We recently went to Berlin for the weekend, and really enjoyed the city.  One of the joys of traveling in Europe is if you call at the right time, you can get airfare for free, and just have to pay taxes and fees (which are sometimes alot) but at times they even have "no tax" days, which helps alot.  We were able to fly to Berlin and back for less than $100 for two of us, so it was a great deal.  About 25 of us from the House went, but we were spread out in various hotels so we didn't get to spend alot of time with everyone.  Berlin has so much history it is amazing; it is a very sobering place to visit...and the history is such RECENT history, that it is hard to fathom much of it happened in my own life time.  In the Checkpoint Charlie museum, we kept saying things like "wait, I had already graduated COLLEGE when this was going on!"  This year is the 20th anniversary of the Wall coming down ...so hard to believe.  I think as Americans we tend to forget alot of the history, because we are not confronted with it except in movies, or history books... these people live it daily - and I am sure many would LIKE to move past it... although, we were told that there are many still alive who think it was better when the wall was still up... THAT I find hard to believe.              We spent some time at the Jewish museum, and also the Holocaust Memorial ... both were very interesting, and moving - a great tribute to the many who died during that time.  We wish we had more time in Berlin .. it is a beautiful city.

End of the year, already?

Greetings everyone - I hope you enjoy a few pictures from this last week of ministry, for 2008.  It has been a busy week - beginning with a birthday party at our favorite German restaurant for a dear friend, a Christmas party for our chapel's Parish Council, Christmas eve service at chapel followed by a sleep-over at the house with several of the singles...then, Breakfast for them on Christmas day, Christmas dinner for 60 (with our traditional White Elephant exchange...always a good time!), then Friday night ministry, with dinner, Christmas music, and a DVD "the Star of Bethlehem".   We are blessed to be here, to be family for those who have no family overseas.

We are also dogsitting the biggest puppy I have ever seen!  She is a 7 month old Bernese Mountain Dog - beautiful, and having much fun with our Buddy.  (how Buddy feels about it remains to be seen!)

We pray you will all have a wonderful New Year, celebrating the goodness of our God.   We will (again) be attempting to blow up the neighborhood, in high German tradition!

October 2nd update ...

Hey everyone,

We had a great week last week, thanks to ALL who stepped in to help out – sorry about the oven!  I don’t know what happened, but it seems everyone was flexible, and that is a good thing.  A special thanks to Dave for teaching, and Amber and Mel for setting up… we say it repeatedly that this is not the STOCK family ministry – it is God’s ministry, and we cannot do it without all of you!

A HUGE thank you, too, for the nice surprise in our back yard!  I have thought for some time that a fire pit would be fun – THANKS to Dave for bringing it all the way back from Texas…and to Ed and April for helping him pick it out!  It is beautiful – and will be great fun… ALSO for the fence!  That was a blessing as well, not only for the privacy; Buddy will no longer get to take his spontaneous, self-guided, B270 strolls and that is a GOOD thing!

This week’s theme (October 2 nd) will be a CHILI cookoff – or if you prefer, Stew…

Next, we have several prayer requests this week… please keep our brothers and sisters (whether we know them personally, or not) in prayer this week…

Julian Luoma – has an MRI on Thursday for a head injury he received during football practice a couple weeks ago.  He won’t get the results until Monday, he is praying he will be released to play more football!  Please pray for wisdom for those reading the xrays, and peace for the family during this time.

Anna and AJ Johnson are Malachi workers coming to Ramstein to run Destiny and Vision, the High School and Junior High Chapel Youth programs.  They will be arriving this weekend (that is a PRAISE) but as I understand it, they are still a bit short on their support raising.  Please pray for God to raise up more supporters for them, perhaps from within our own community.  You can find out more about them by going to the Cadence website, at www.Cadence.org

I received this email yesterday from Tiffany Corwin – please keep this family in your prayers… Please pray for my friend Caryn Rodriguez.  We just found out that her husband was killed at the Marriott bombing in Pakistan.  She is 29 and they have no children.  I can't even imagine what she must be going through.  She is a teacher and would like to stay here.  That is not as easy as it sounds so please pray that we can work all of that out also.”

Please continue to remember Connie Mote as she undergoes her Chemo treatments.

And as always, please continue to remember those from our group who are deployed to the war.

Upcoming events…(several this week!):

Saturday, October 4th – PWOC Fall Rally – in Heidelberg!  We will be carpooling, have a catered lunch… please let Manuela know if you are able to go (whether or not you attend PWOC – it is a fun, inspiring day, and gives you a taste of what PWOC is all about!)

October 10th–11th - KMC PFAM (Protestant Family ministries) Marriage conference with Steve and Annie Chapman.  It is FREE, and Local – at Kapaun, at the NCO Academy auditorium.  Register with the chapel, or send an email to KMCPFAM@yahoo.com, or let us know!

Friday, October 17th - Jennessa is moving all her stuff to Heidelberg.   I believe the plan is to meet at her house in the afternoon to load up the truck; She will have a work crew from Heidelberg to unload the truck at her apartment… If you can help Jennessa on the 17th, please let us know.

October 18th – some of us are taking the train track trolley thing …. I don’t remember what it is called, but I believe all the spots are full; if you cannot go, and want to “sell” your spot to someone else, let me know!  If you are not signed up, we can start a waiting list.

Pumpkin Patch – WHEW – October is filling up fast – I don’t have a date yet, so if you are interested in going as a group, let me know!  It is always a fun day, especially if it is sunny.

See you Friday!  Remember to hold each other up in prayer, and be a light in your workplace…
